I’ve been in L.A. for almost 30 years and it’s my favorite place to get away from. Sound familiar? As a busy landscape contractor and designer, and someone that values the peaceful feeling of communing with nature gives me, Los Angeles city life stressed me out. I sought sanctuary in an amazing corner of the Mojave Desert called Wonder Valley. Finding an original pioneer homestead cabin for sale, I transformed it into a personal, private getaway for family and friends and dubbed it my “Witt’s End.“ And so it began…

A home should be a place of refuge, a beautiful nurturing space where stress is lifted, our senses are heightened and we feel free to be who we are. Growing up in Hawaii, we lived in homes that flowed freely into the outside and were filled with what I call the “natural life force.“ The Southwest deserts have that same wonderful feeling and I wanted it as part of my desert get-away.

Once I got Witt’s End fixed up the way I envisioned it and had the family there for a retreat, everybody was surprised to have had an experience that is unlike anything else. Indulgent amenities, breathtaking desert scenery, outdoor living and dining rooms with fireplaces, hot tubs and hammock under the Milky Way, swimming pool with mountain vistas. What more could you want? It was a perfect escape – worry-free, relaxing and very nurturing for each of us and our relationships with one another.

I couldn’t stop at just one. Now, I have 12 desert escapes ranging in style from rustic to modern. Each is different, yet they all promote wellness, strength, inspiration and a “complete” lifestyle.
